On October 25 a group from the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE), which monitors the honoring of obligations and commitments by member states, visited on Sulkhan Molashvili, the former chairman of the State Audit Agency, in his pre-trial detention center at the request of the latter. The monitoring group made no comment after visiting Molashvili in the cell.
The Supreme Court remanded Sulkhan Molashvili, who is accused of the alleged misappropriation of 3 million Lari, for an additional one month and ten days of pre-trial detention on October 24. He has already served six months of pre-trial custody.
Lawyers for Sulkhan Molashvili, as well as some human rights organizations, claim that the ex-chief of the State Audit Agency is a political prisoner. They also claim that Molashvili was subjected to torture in the pre-trial detention center.
