PACE Monitoring Group Visited Ex-Interior Minister in Pretrial Cell

On October 26 a group from the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE), which monitors the honoring of obligations and commitments by member states, visited Koba Narchemashvili, ex-Interior Minister, in a pretrial detention center at the request of the latter.

Koba Narchemashvili, who served as the country’s Interior Minister from 2001-2003 and was arrested on October 24, is accused of misuse of power.

Josette Durrieu, a member of the Monitoring Committee, said after meeting with Narchemashvili that the Council of Europe will watch the case closely.

The members of the Monitoring Committee have already visited Sulkhan Molashvili, the former chairman of the State Audit Agency, in his pre-trial detention center on October 25.

Later on October 26 the PACE delegation will hold talks with President Saakashvili and Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania.
