Georgia Pledges Support to Ukrainian People

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said on November 23 that ?Georgia is closely watching the recent developments in Ukraine.?

?How the situation develops in Ukraine and who wins the presidential elections is very important for us. I wish peace and success to the Ukrainian people,? President Saakashvili said in the interview with Georgian television on November 23.

Saakashvili also said that the Europe ?should not let down? the Ukrainian people.

Several Georgian MPs and officials left for Kiev, Ukraine?s capital, on November 24 to express support for the Ukrainian people.

Meanwhile, mass protesters took to the streets for the third day demanding that Ukraine’s opposition leader, Viktor Yushchenko, be installed as president after a weekend vote, which, protesters claim, was fraudulent.

The election, according to incomplete official results, appeared to hand victory to pro-Moscow candidate Viktor Yanukovich.
