Senior MP Slams EU Envoy

Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Relations Kote Gabashvili slammed on December 3 European Union’s Special Representative to the South Caucasus countries Heikki Talvitie for his, as Gabashvili put it, “passiveness” in the conflict resolution issues.

“His [Heikki Talvitie] passiveness is surprising me. He is especially passive regarding the conflict resolution issues. Better to have no special representative at all than a person like Heikki Talvitie,” Kote Gabashvili said at a session of the Parliamentary Committee on December 3.

Heikki Talvitie was appointed as an EU’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus countries on July 7, 2003. In his capacity as the EU’s envoy, Talvitie visited South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali at least for four times.
