Abkhaz presidential contender Sergey Bagapsh said at a news briefing on December 16 that the issue of Abkhazia’s reintegration into Georgia “is not on the agenda,” Russian NTV television reported.
“This issue will not be pushed forward, as I think, for at least the next 100 years,” Sergey Bagapsh said.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said, while presenting new Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili to the staff of the Defense Ministry late on December 15, that Okruashvili will remain at the post of Defense Minister until Georgia’s territorial integrity is restored.
“In this case Okruashvili will have to lead the Ministry forever,” Interfax quoted Abkhaz de facto Defense Minister Vyacheslav Eshba as saying on December 16.
