A session of the coordination committee of the GUUAM member states ? Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Moldova – is being held in Chisinau, capital of Moldova, on January 27 to discuss the cooperation between the member countries, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported.
However, representatives of Uzbekistan are not participating in the meeting. Uzbekistan has already refrained from participation in the last several GUUAM summits in recent months.
Uzbekistan was not represented at the GUUAM Foreign Ministerial summit in New York last September and it refused to participate in setting up of the GUUAM Parliamentary Assembly, which was held in Ukraine also last September.
GUUAM was established in 1997 as a political, economic and strategic alliance designed to strengthen the independence and sovereignty of its members. Uzbekistan joined the group later, in 1999.
