Sergei Mironov, the Chairman of the Council of Federation of Russia, the upper house of the Russian Parliament, said Russia welcomes proposals over carrying out international monitoring of Georgia?s Pankisi gorge.
Recently Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said that Georgia is ready to welcome an international group, including representatives from Russia, to monitor the Pankisi gorge, in an attempt to disavow Russia?s allegations over the presence of Chechen rebels in this north-eastern part of Georgia, near the Russian border.
?If such a proposal is made, we will consider it. It is not bad to conduct one more monitoring [mission in Pankisi gorge],? RIA Novosti quotes Mironov as saying on February 1.
