Shevardnadze Comments on Zhvania’s Death

Ex-President of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze said, while commenting on the death of Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania, that “Georgia has lost the greatest state figure, a brilliant person. I have lost the greatest friend and the most gifted pupil.”

“Our relations have never suspended, even when we did not work together. During the most difficult period, when I resigned, we were still together,” the ex-President said.

He characterized Zhvania as a very educated person, with good organizational skills and “knowledge of how to overcome the most difficult political situations.”

Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania was found dead, apparently by gas poisoning, in his friend’s apartment in Tbilisi in the early hours of February 3, Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili said.
