Lavrov Visits Georgia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Georgia on February 17 to hold talks with the Georgian leadership.

Sergey Lavrov will hold talks with the Georgian President, the Parliamentary Chairperson, the Prime Minister and other officials.

?I hope the talks will be fruitful and we will manage to make progress in particular issues,? the Russian Foreign Minister said upon his arrival in Tbilisi.

The issues of a comprehensive framework agreement between the two countries, as well as the pullout of Russia?s two military bases from Georgia will be discussed during these talks.

Two days before his arrival in Tbilisi Sergey Lavrov refused to lay a wreath at the memorial of Georgia’s fallen soldiers during his visit to Georgia. This item was removed from the schedule of the visit at the insistence of the Russian side; as a result, the Georgian side downgraded Sergey Lavrov’s visit from an “official” visit to a “working” one.
