President Mikheil Saakashvili?s spokesperson Gela Charkviani announced on March 16 that the Georgian President is ready to meet with President of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh ?either in Tbilisi or Batumi,? in the Adjara Autonomous Republic, but not in the Abkhaz capital Sokhumi, where there are ?no conditions yet? for this meeting.
?The Georgian President is ready to meet Bagapsh without any prior conditions and is ready to discuss the entire spectrum of problems,? Gela Charkviani said at a news briefing on March 16.
This announcement was made in response to a statement made by Sergey Bagapsh in Moscow on March 15 who said, while answering a journalist?s question regarding when he will visit Tbilisi, ?as soon as we will be ready to discuss serious issues.?
Bagapsh also said in Moscow that talks between Sokhumi and Tbilisi should first start with discussions of economic issues and then move towards solving political problems.
