Saakashivli Urges Diplomatic Corps to Attract Investments

President Mikheil Saakashvili met with the Georgian Ambassadors to foreign countries in the resort town of Borjomi on September 4 and urged them to attract investments from those countries where they serve.

?Not a single Ambassador will retain his position for more than a year if he fails to attract investments, of course taking into account the potential of the country where he serves. This is my major demand … We also demand professionalism from our diplomats,? Saakashvili said while meeting with the Ambassadors.

He said, each Ambassador is appointed for a term of four years, but if they fail to perform their functions, ?they will be replaced.?

The meeting between the President and the Georgian diplomatic corps came after a two-day working meeting convened by Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili in Batumi, Adjara Autonomous Republic on September 2-3, where the country?s foreign policy priorities, including measures aimed at attraction of foreign investments and a draft law on diplomatic service, were discussed.
