Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili said on March 18 that the only reason of the opposition’s calls for his resignation is intensive fight against organized crime.
“I am very glad that the opposition is fighting against me. It shows that the opposition has noticed that by harming the police, they can harm the entire state. But I am sure that the law enforcers will not be frightened and will further activate struggle against the criminals,” Vano Merabishvili told reporters on March 18.
The opposition and some human right groups demand Merabishvili’s resignation over Sandro Girgvliani’s high-profile murder case.
