Duma Speaker Slams Georgia’s ‘Anti-Democratic Regime’

The State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament, is planning to adopt a statement on the current “anti-democratic regime” in Georgia on October 2, RIA Novosti news agency quoted Boris Gryzlov, the chairman of the State Duma, as saying on Monday.

He said that the move was linked to the arrest of ex-Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili. “It is obvious that the current regime in Georgia is anti-democratic,” Gryzlov added.

Georgian lawmakers, both from the opposition and ruling parties, have said it was “funny” and ironic that Russian MPs were lecturing Georgia on democracy.
