PM: Georgian Peacekeepers Attacked in South Ossetia

Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania said in a news briefing that the checkpoint utilized by Georgian peacekeepers in the South Ossetian conflict zone came under fire on July 8. No casualties were reported.


?We are doing everything to avoid armed conflict. We will not tolerate the renewal of an armed confrontation in the conflict zone,? Zurab Zhvania said.


At a separate news briefing earlier on July 8, held after the detention of the Georgian peacekeepers in the conflict zone had occured, the Prime Minister accused the South Ossetian side of provoking Tbilisi into an armed conflict.
