Director General of the Pension Fund of Georgia Zaza Sopromadze left for the Tskhinvali region on August 4 in order to distribute pensions to the Georgian and Ossetian pensioners living in the South Ossetian conflict area.
?Despite the pressure from the South Ossetian de facto authorities, the number of pensioners who demand pensions from the Georgian authorities is increasing. Today the Georgian authorities will give pensions to 300 pensioners in breakaway South Ossetia,? Zaza Sopromadze told reporters before his departure to the Tskhinvali region.
On May 31st, President Saakashvili proposed a number of social benefits for the population of the breakaway region. Along with the restoration of the railway link between Tskhinvali and the rest of Georgia, the President also offered to distribute pensions from Georgia?s state budget, provide free emergency ambulance service and distribute agricultural fertilizers to the South Ossetian population.
