The parliamentary bureau meeting agreed on September 7 to launch the autumn plenary session of the Georgian Parliament with debate over the recent developments in Georgia?s breakaway South Ossetia.
MP Davit Gamkrelidze, leader of the Rightist Opposition coalition, which is the only opposition faction in the Georgian Parliament, accused the authorities of carrying out ?unsuccessful? military operation in breakaway South Ossetian in August and demanded from the government to provide data about the finances spent on this operation.
On August 19 the Georgian forces captures strategic heights overlooking the separatists? capital Tskhinvali; however later on the same day Georgian non-peacekeeping forces launched withdrawal from the conflict zone, as ordered by President Mikheil Saakashvili, in a bid, as the President put it, ?to give a last chance for peace.?
The first sitting of the autumn session of the Parliament is scheduled to be convened for September 14.
