President Mikheil Saakashvili met representatives from various Georgian civil society organizations on July 6, before his departure to Iran, and expressed a readiness to boost cooperation between his government and the non-governmental organizations.
“We are ready for cooperation. Currently many members of the government are former NGO leaders and this is a positive trend. But on the other hand you might be experiencing some difficulties because of this very same reason,” Mikheil Saakashvili told representatives of the NGOs at the meeting.
Saakashvili suggested that the non-governmental organizations participate in monitoring government spending of funds received from donor organizations and countries, Civil Georgia reports.
