Saakashvili Pledges Amnesty for Army Deserters

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said on September 17 that he is ready to pardon those army deserters gramtomg they enlist in the army now.
 
?I understand very well why they avoided military service, since there were terrible conditions in the military units. Now the situation has changed for the better and if they show up now, we will drop charges against them,? Mikheil Saakashvili said after visiting the Mukhrovani military base on September 17.


He said that 16 new barracks will be ready before November 23 “when we are going to celebrate the [one year] anniversary of the Rose Revolution.? ?All of these barracks will be western-style,? he added.
