Georgia Hopes to Restore its Voting Right at the UN

The Georgian government has paid a membership fee for 2004 to the United Nations, as a result Tbilisi hopes to restore its right to vote at the organization, which was suspended on June 30 due to non-payment of membership dues, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported.
 
The Georgian government has elaborated a ten-year schedule of repayment, under which the country will annually transfer USD 766,299 to the UN budget.
 
The issue of restoration of Georgia?s voting right will be discussed during the forthcoming talks between Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in New York.
 
The Georgian President will leave on September 18 for the United States to participate in the annual 59th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
