The ruling party, the National Movement-Democrats, nominated Member of Parliament candidates for the by-elections in Tbilisi?s two ? Krtsanisi and Didube – single-mandate constituencies as well as for the Zestaponi provincial constituencies, scheduled for October 24.
The ruling party nominated Giorgi Asanidze, who won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Athens in weightlifting, to run in the Krtsanisi single-mandate constituency.
He will have to compete with Nodar Natadze, leader of the People?s Front. Former Mayor of Tbilisi Vano Zodelava was also preparing to run in this constituency but withdrew his candidacy, however, on September 15.
Teimuraz Cheishvili was nominated to run for the MP position in the Didube single-mandate constituency. He will compete with Jumber Tavartkiladze, who is an ally of non-partisan opposition MP Koba Davitashvili.
Teimuraz Tsertsvadze,the former governor of Zestaponi and a member of the ruling party, will run in the Zestaponi single-mandate constituency.
By-elections are also scheduled in the Gori provincial constituency, however, the ruling party has not nominated its candidate there. Jumber Patiashvili, who leads the Ertoba political movement and who was the Georgian communist leader in late 80s, will run in the Gori single-mandate constituency.
According to the Central Election Commission, the deadline for submitting applications for running in the by-elections expires on September 23.
