NATO, Georgia Launch Joint Drills Outside Tbilisi

Joint NATO-Georgia Exercises 2016 will be held at the Joint Training and Evaluation Center (JTEC) in Krtsanisi on November 10-20.

According to the Georgian Defense Ministry, along with Georgian soldiers, servicemen from 11 allied member states (Turkey, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Belgium, Slovenia, UK, US) and 2 partners (Ukraine and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) will be participating.

The exercises aim to enhance the interoperability of Georgian, Allied and Partner Forces, as well as command and control capabilities.

The brigade-level exercises are supported and organized by NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT), NATO Land Command, Joint Force Training Centre (JFTC), partner countries and the Georgian Armed Forces in frames of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package endorsed by the Alliance at the Wales summit in 2014.

“I welcome the start of NATO-GEO 2016, the second NATO-Georgia Exercise, which runs from 10-21 November – another milestone in the long-standing, deep cooperation between NATO and Georgia and further recognition of Georgia‘s commitment to strong defence, to NATO operations and to international security,” NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, JamesAppathurai said.

“For NATO, this reflects the Alliance‘s commitment to help project stability, share knowledge and expertise and train our forces together,” he said in a post on his Facebook page.
