Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni, who is visiting Georgia on November 6-7, met President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and his counterpart, Mikheil Janelidze.
Bilateral relations and issues of cooperation were discussed at the meetings.
The Italian Foreign Minister expressed desire for further deepening “friendly” relations between the two countries. He expressed support to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the country’s aspirations to EU and NATO and emphasized the need for strengthening economic cooperation with Georgia.
He also said that the two countries have fully used the opportunities offered by the EU-Georgia free trade agreement. The Italian Foreign Minister said that his country “firmly” supports Georgia’s visa liberalisation process with the EU.
“We attach special importance to this visit and discuss it as a clear sign of Italian government’s support to our country,” PM Kvirikashvili said after his meeting with the Italian Foreign Minister. “I am sure that the Italian Foreign Minister’s visit will give a new impetus to further deepening of cooperation between our countries.”
According to the Georgian PM’s office, Giorgi Kvirikashvili will visit Italy in January 2017; a Georgian-Italian business forum is also planned in Italy, where, as the Italian Foreign Minister put it, the Italian side will be able to familiarize itself with “huge opportunities” of doing business in Georgia.
After visiting Georgian, FM Paolo Gentiloni will travel to Azerbaijan and Armenia.
