President Giorgi Margvelashvili appointed Gigi Gigiadze, incumbent deputy foreign minister, as Georgian Ambassador to Denmark, the President’s office reported on November 24.
Gigiadze will replace Nikoloz Rtveliashvili, who had served in that position since June 2011.
In his capacity of the Georgian deputy foreign minister, Gigi Gigiadze, a career diplomat, had been in charge of Georgia’s visa liberalisation process with EU. Before his return to Tbilisi, he served as envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2003-2007 he served as a counselor at the Embassy of Georgia to the Hellenic Republic. In 2010-2012 he was director of the European Affairs Department at the Foreign Ministry.
