Rashid Kanji-Ogli, Abkhaz border guard , is now wanted in the 190 countries under the jurisdiction of Interpol, the world’s largest international police organization.
29-year-old Kanji-Ogli is wanted on charges of murder of Giga Otkhozoria, a thirty-year-old Georgian citizen, who was shot dead on the Georgian-controlled territory at the Khurcha-Nabakevi crossing point between Abkhazia’s predominantly ethnic Georgian-populated Gali district and its adjoining Zugdidi district of Samegrelo region on May 19, 2016.
Georgian Interior and Justice Ministers said on November 24 that Tbilisi was seeking INTERPOL’s red notice – a high priority search warrant – for Kanji-Ogli.
On December 26, Zugdidi City Court found Rashid Kanji-Ogli guilty of murder and sentenced him to 12 years of prison in absentia. The ruling was challenged by the Prosecutor’s Office in the Kutaisi Court of Appeals, which upheld the appeal on March 10 and increased the penalty to 14 years in prison.
