Reformers’ wing of the ruling party, "CUG", Mr. Koba Davitashvili, Mr. Vano Merabishvili, Mr. Kote Kemularia, Mr. Lado Chipashvili, Mr. Vasil Maglaperidze, Mr. Goga Kokhreidze, and Mrs. Elene Tevdoradze held a press conference today. The basic reason of the press conference was the draft-law on self-governance elections, which is about electing mayors and governors through direct system of elections. The draft-law they had worked on was not debated in the Parliament.
They said they had agreed with the opposition that the draft would be debated. Mayors and governors would be elected by citizens in case the opposition supported them. Later on the opposition refused to take part in debates over the draft. According to Mr. Koba Davitashvili, the opposition’s campaign concerning self-governance turned out to be a false (electivity of mayors and governors was demanded by the opposition initially). Georgia would have a real self-governance if not the resistance from the side of the opposition.
The opposition rejects all the accusation and states the same ones to the ruling party.
