Shireen Hunter, who directs Islamic studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington told EurasiaNet that Russia will use its political skill to seek U.S. support in its anti-Islamic drive. “Quite obviously this was a service that the terrorists have rendered to just about every government that sees Islam as a sort of negative force,” he says.
Alec Applebaum of EurasiaNet, a New-York based information service, also points at increased Russian pressure on Georgia and other states of Eurasia.
