(Tbilisi, May 21, Civil Georgia) – The district court of Tbilisi made a decision in favor of the governor of Kvemo Kartli Levan Mamaladze, who is though to be the President’s supporter. According to the verdict Mamaladze’s wing of the Citizen’s Union can register its party list in the central election commission [CEC].
Somehow, the district court did not satisfy the claim of former head of the Parliament Zurab Zhvania and his team, who are given the name of reformers and who are thought to be the main opposition of President Shevardnadze.
“The court followed State Chancellery’s game rules”, Roman Kusiani, member of Zhvania’s team, stated yesterday.
Supporter of the Kvemo Kartli governor MP Irakli Gogava claims that the court’s decision was legal and that the law was on their side.
Mamaladze’s wing will present the party’s list in the CEC today. It is supposed that the reformers will apply to the supreme court in order to appeal the district court’s decision.
