General Prosecutor’s Office Investigates Hijacking of Ballots in Rustavi

(Tbilisi, June 4, Civil Georgia) – General prosecutor’s Office will investigate the incident in Rustavi, town in Kvemo Kartli region on June 2, when the unknown persons stole ballots so the local elections in these town elections were canceled.

The regional department of Rustavi Prosecutor’s Office was to investigate the case, but many of the MPs were against and demanded from the General Prosecutor’ s Office to investigate an incident, as they claimed the influential governor of Kvemo Kartli region Levan Mamaladze would pressure on investigation process.

MPs also demanded from the Interior Minister Koba Narchemashvili and the General Prosecutor Nugzar Gabrichidze to inform the deputies concerning the case.

“I hope on June 7 General Prosecutor and Interior Minister will come in the Parliament and present not the general but detail information – who was the organized the hijacking of ballots in Rustavi,” Parliamentary Chairperson said at the session today.
