Finance Minister Promises Funding for Votes’ Recounting

(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, July 25, 2002) – “I never had any problem with the Central Election Commission [CEC] and will not have in the future too,” Finance Minister Mirian Gogiashvili stated today at the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finances.

On July 24 Chairman of the CEC Jumber Lominadze said that lack of finances is the reason of not starting recounting of votes cast during election of Tbilisi Sakrebulo (city council) on June 2. “I will meet with Lominadze and solve all the problems,” Gogiashvili said.

In June Tbilisi district court ruled positively on National Movement’s appeal demanding recounting votes in Tbilisi because of numerous procedural violations that occurred during the locals.
