(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, December 3, 2002) – Russian President’s special envoy for the Abkhazian conflict settlement Valeri Loshchinin met with the representatives of the UN Secretary General’s Group of Friends on Georgia (Germany, France, Great Britain, and the United States) in Moscow on December 2. Russia is the member of the group as well.
Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry reports that the issue of restoration of mutual trust between the Georgian and Abkhazian sides was discussed during the meeting.
The UN Secretary General’s Group of Friends on Georgia elaborated document regarding “Basic Principles for the Distribution of Competences between Tbilisi and Sukhumi [capital of breakaway Republic of Abkhazia]”, which considers Abkhazia’s status within the Georgian state. Abkhaz side refuses to launch talks on this document.
