National Movement Accepts United Democrats’ Proposal to Unite

(Tbilisi. April 19, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Leaders of the opposition National Movement Party expressed readiness to form the joint election alliance with another opposition United Democrats Party, led by Zurab Zhvania.

?In case Zhvania agrees to leave the alliance?s leadership to Mikheil Saakashvili [leader of the National Movement] certainly we agree on unification,? Koba Davitashvili of National Movement Party said at the news briefing today.

On April 18 Zurab Zhvania called the opposition parties to unite. ?In case of formation of the opposition alliance I am ready to say no to leadership of the alliance and be the last in the election list,? Zurab Zhvania said.
 
Koba Davitashvili said today that only way ?to bring to end Shevardnadze?s regime is the opposition unification.?
