Russia Ruled Out Russian Troops’ Involvement in Georgia

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov ruled out participation of the Russian militaries deployed in Georgia in the recent developments in the country.

As the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports, quoting the Defense Minister, “the Russian militaries can use force only in case if they are attacked.”

Jemal Gogitidze, one of the leaders of the Revival Union party, said on November 10 in the interview to the independent Rustavi 2 TV channel, that “we can even assist Shevardnadze with our military units, and if necessary with the Russian military forces.”

One of the Russian military bases is deployed in Batumi, the capital of Adjara Autonomous Republic.
