Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili threatened to confiscate assets held by the Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov within the Georgian regions of Adjara and breakaway Abkhazia.
He said at the news briefing in Moscow on July 2 that Yuri Luzhkov purchased several sanatoriums in breakaway Abkhazia.
Recently, the Russian media reported that an agreement has been reached between the visiting Prime Minister of unrecognized Abkhaz Republic Raul Khajinba and the municipality of Moscow in regards to the purchasing of a sanatorium in the Abkhaz resort town of Gagra.
President Saakashvili also said that Luzhkov, who is a close friend of Adjara’s former leader Aslan Abashidze, had particular financial interests in the Adjara Autonomous Republic and even has assets in the region.
“It seems Luzhkov failed to learn his lessons during the Adjara developments. I publicly declare that we will confiscate his economic interests both in Adjara and in Abkhazia,” President Saakashvili said at a news briefing on July 2.
