Georgian Finance Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, who is taking part in a three-day annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, Philippines, met yesterday with ADB President Takehiko Nakao.

Minister Bakhtadze said after the meeting that ADB was “one of the largest donor organizations” for the Georgian economy, and that he had a “very fruitful” discussion with Nakao on expanding the country’s cooperation with ADB.

“ADB invests approximately USD 250 million in the Georgian infrastructure annually. We discussed the possibilities for expanding the ADB portfolio in Georgia so that more infrastructural projects could be financed,” Mamuka Bakhtadze said.

On May 3, Finance Minister addressed the high-level discussion on economic cooperation in Central Asia, where he highlighted Georgia’s role in the regional economy, and the country’s “free trade regimes” with the European Union and China.

On the sidelines of the annual meeting, Minister Bakhtadze also met with senior ADB representatives, inlcuding Vice-President Wencai Zhang, Director General for Central and West Asia Werner Liepach, and Alternate Director Scott Dawson.

Finance Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze left for the Philippines on May 2. Bakhtadze will continue meetings with the representatives of ADB and other international financial organizations, and return to Georgia on May 6, according to his press office.
