The Georgian Orthodox Patriarchate has issued a statement on Tbilisi protests.
“Our compatriots have been appalled by recent developments in Tbilisi.
Although countering drug trade is essential for us, the government and the entire population, questions have been raised on the police operation in certain segments of the society (although, police has its own position on it). But we also need to stress that the statements voiced by certain part of the youngsters who have gathered in front of the Parliament, as well as their behavior, has contributed negatively and created grounds for a counter-demonstration.
We would like to urge the sons and the daughters of the Georgian Church with the blessing of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia to refrain from confrontation, so that they do not become part of a serious provocation.”
