A Georgian soldier has died during a training exercise at the Orpolo firing range, close to the town of Akhaltsikhe in Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia.
The Ministry of Defense said 31-year-old Corporal Mirza Chachua, a motorist in the 34th artillery battalion, “felt unwell” after completing one of the phases of the exercise and was hospitalized in a nearby hospital with symptoms of heart failure.
“He was treated with direct cardiac massage procedures, but Corporal Chachua’s life could not be saved,” the Ministry of Defense noted.
The Ministry added that investigation was launched under article 116 of the Criminal Code of Georgia involving negligent manslaughter and punishable by home arrest from six months to two years or by imprisonment for a term of two to four years.
