Multinational Military Drills Start in Georgia

The U.S. and Georgia-led “Agile Spirit” military exercise officially kicked off today at Senaki military base in western Georgia.

237 military servicemen from Georgia and United States, as well as Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine participate in the exercise.

It includes command and staff training and aims at enhancing Georgia’s interoperability with the U.S. and other partner nations, as well as with the NATO.

Addressing the opening ceremony today, Defense Minister Levan Izoria said Georgia is “one of the exemplary allies” of U.S. and NATO in the region.

The ten-day military drills led by the Georgian Armed Forces and the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe will last until September 11.
