Two gas technicians have been arrested over a gas explosion in Tbilisi on January 16 that claimed the lives of four people.
The men, both employees of KazTransGas-Tbilisi, a gas distribution company in the capital, have been arrested on suspicion of failure to identify the gas leak.
The Interior Ministry said the two inspected the area several hours before the blast, following the request of local residents to investigate the source of the smell in the apartment block.
“The technicians did not inspect the gas pipes properly, and told the residents that there was no smell of gas in the building and that they were confusing it with the smell of paint,” it said.
The police also said detectives will carry on with the investigation.
