Stanisław Karczewski, the Senate Speaker of the Polish Parliament is on an official visit to Georgia on May 20-23. Yesterday, he met with his Georgian counterpart, Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze.
At a joint press briefing, Speaker Kobakhidze said Georgian and Polish people enjoy “historic friendship” and Karczewski’s visit to Georgia would encourage further development of cooperation between the two countries.
“On behalf of the Parliament of Georgia, I would like to express gratitude for Poland for supporting Georgia’s freedom and unity,” Kobakhidze said. He also hailed Poland for supporting Georgia’s European Union and NATO aspirations.
Yesterday, the Polish Senate Speaker visited the village Odzisi adjacent to Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia. He also met with Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani and Orthodox Patriarch Ilia II.
