NATO Delivers New Vehicles to Georgia

NATO has officially delivered 15 brand new vehicles to the NATO-Georgia Joint Training and Evaluation Center (JTEC).

Georgia received the new vehicles through the NATO Defense Capacity Building Trust Fund, with contributions from NATO Allies – Norway, UK, Germany, Turkey, Denmark, Italy, Portugal and Lithuania.

According to the NATO Liaison Office in Georgia, “work continues to ensure the delivery of the second batch of training vehicles for JTEC in 2020. By then, a total of €1.2 million will have been spent on this project.”

“The training support vehicles will enhance the mobility of Georgian and NATO military colleagues at the JTEC, and the capability to deliver the best military training and exercise opportunities in the region,” it added.

The ceremony of delivering the new vehicles was held on October 18. Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Garibashvili attended it. According to the Georgian Defense Ministry, Garibashvili thanked the countries participating in the project for their financial contribution and noted that it will promote JTEC personnel’s mobility and, generally, improve working conditions.

The Joint Training and Evaluation Center (JTEC) was inaugurated in Krtsanisi near Tbilisi in 2015 as part of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package. The JTEC is designed to assist Georgia in strengthening its security and defense sector through training and evaluation as well as improving the interoperability of Georgian forces with NATO members and partners.
