Update: New Abkhaz Leader Appoints More Cabinet Members, District Heads

Aslan Bzhania, newly sworn-in Moscow-backed leader of Abkhazia, has appointed several more ministers of his 14-member cabinet.

Earlier on April 28, Bzhania appointed Beslan Jopua as “the first vice prime minister” of the region, and Vladimir Delba as one of the three “vice prime ministers” – who will also be in charge of the region’s finances.

In the meantime, Abkhaz leader also made several appointments of the acting heads of the region’s district administrations. 

On May 29, Bzhania appointed Stanislav Amichba as the acting head of Ochamchire district administration. Earlier, on May 27 he appointed Temur Otirba as the acting head of New Athos (Akhali Atoni) district administration; on May 18 – Bagrat Bojgua as the acting head of Gudauta district administration; on May 12 – Isidor Dochia as the acting head of Tkvarcheli district administration; on April 30 – Yuri Khagush as the acting head of westernmost Gagra district and Beslan Eshba as the acting head of the administration of Sokhumi, the regional capital. 

Aslan Bzhania, sworn in as the fifth leader of Moscow-backed region on April 23, 2020, appointed Alexander Ankvab, former regional leader, as the new head of the cabinet following the resignation of the previous cabinet led by Valery Bganba.
