Kremlin-backed Abkhaz leader Aslan Bzhania visited Moscow, where he met with Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, and Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration.
The pair discussed issues of bilateral cooperation on July 27 with Medvedev noting that Russia continues to provide the “necessary assistance for the socio-economic development of Abkhazia, ensuring its security.”
As part of developing relations, the two also examined forming a common social and economic space and aligning Abkhaz legislation with Russia which will “reveal its investment potential for Russian business.”
Bzhania and Medvedev also focused on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as part of the conversation on international developments, and Medvedev emphasized occupied Abkhazia’s decision to recognize the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Per Sukhumi-based apsnypress, while meeting with Kozak on July 28, Bzhania debated various issues, including resuming air traffic in Abkhazia. They also touched on implementing the 2022-2025 program for the region’s socio-economic development.
Besides Kozak, the meeting was also attended by Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economic Development, Dmitry Volvach, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, and Igor Maslov, the Head of the Presidential Administration’s Interregional Relations and Cultural Contacts department.
The “foreign minister” Inal Ardzinba also traveled to Russia on July 27 to meet with top officials and discuss areas of cooperation according to apsnypress.
