Georgia Calls For Widening of the Peacekeeping Operations in Abkhazia
President Shevardnadze proposed expansion of peacekeeping contingent in Abkhazia on behalf of other states, Eduard Shevardnadze stated after the meeting with the OSCE delegation today.
Ukraine and some other countries have already announced their readiness to participate in the peacekeeping operations in Abkhazia, President stated.
On October 11 Georgian Parliament approved proposal concerning withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from Abkhazia. Russian peacekeeping forces are deployed in the Abkhazian-Georgian conflict zone since the mid-1994 under the auspices of the CIS along the border of Abkhazia and the rest of Georgia.
