Ex-Justice Minister Mikheil Saakashvili is Leading in Vake District By-Elections
According to the preliminary results of the by-elections in Vake district, Tbilisi, more then 60% of the electorate voted for ex-Justice Minister Mikheil Saakashvili and has a real chance to return to the Parliament.
National Democratic Party’s leader Irina Sarishvili, the most likely challenger of Saakashvili, has less then 10% of votes.
All the candidates in Vake districted claimed about huge violations during the ballot. One policemen was wounded while protecting the ballot box. Candidates blamed each other in violations.
Irina Sarishvili accused Tbilisi Mayor Vano Zodelava in cooperating with Mikheil Saakashvili. She stated that Zodelava assisted Saakashvili in faking the elections. National Democratic Party’s leader demands resignation of the Mayor.
Mikheil Saakashvili denies the accusation and claims Irina Sarishvili violated the elections with assistance of the police.
