Law Enforcers to Pass Special Operations in Pankisi Gorge
(Tbilisi, January 12, Civil Georgia) – State Security Minister Valeri Khaburdzania states that special operations are intended in criminal-ridden Pankisi gorge to eradicate illegal drug and arms dealings. National Security Council of Georgia took a decision on January 11.
The Minister refused to say any details of the intended measures.
Valeri Khaburdzania admits that the gorge became no-go area for the Georgian authorities.
Local population of the region and representatives of the self-governance structures, together with the members of the Union of Combatants of Afghan War are protesting in Akhmeta region, near Pankisi gorge, demanding from law enforcers to eradicate criminals’ activity in the gorge.
