Georgian-Russian Talks on Handing Over Georgian Border Guards

(Tbilisi, September 5, 2002, Civil Georgia) – Representatives of the Georgian and Russian Border Guard Departments will meet at Mamisoni pass, near Georgian-Russian border today to discuss the issue of hand over of the three Georgian border guards.

Georgian Border Guard Department spokesman Shalva Londaridze told the reporters on September 4 it is anticipated that the Russian side will hand over Georgian citizens after the talks.

Three Georgian border guards were detained after they crossed the Russian border on September 2. Georgian officials claim that the border guards violated the border unintentionally.
