Two Georgians Suspected in Attack on Shevardnadze Detained in Chechnya

(Tbilisi, December 20, 2002. Civil Georgia) – Russian law enforcers detained two Georgian citizens in Chechnya. They are wanted by Georgia for failed car bomb attack against President Shevardnadze in 1998.

Georgian Interior Ministry reported today that the ministry prepares documentation for Soso Toria and Vepkhia Durglishvili’s extradition to Georgia.

One bodyguard of Georgian President and one attacker died in the terrorist attack against Shevardnadze on February 9, 1998.
