Tbilisi, Batumi Try to Overcome Budgetary Problems
(Tbilisi, January 6, 2003. Civil Georgia) – The special governmental commission on solving the financial problems between Tbilisi and its Autonomous Republic of Adjara holds its first meeting today.
Batumi (capital of the Autonomous Republic) refuses to transfer tax in the central budget.
According to the Georgian Finance Ministry the central budget suffered with some 30 million Lari deficit in 2002 because of tax evasion from the Autonomous Republic.
The State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze and the head of the Adjarian Autonomous Republic Aslan Abashidze agreed on December 24 to create a special governmental commission to solve the budgetary problem.
