Georgian, EU MPs Discussed Abkhaz, Election Issues

(Tbilisi. February 25, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Today the delegation of the Euro-parliament met Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze, head of the Tbilisi-based Abkhaz government in exile MP Tamaz Nadareishvili and leader of the opposition United Democrats Party MP Zurab Zhvania.

At the meeting with the Nino Burjanadze and Tamaz Nadareishvili EU MPs discuss situation in Abkhazia.

During the visit in breakaway region?s capital Sokhumi on February 26 the Euro-parliamentary delegation intends to raise the issue of the railway connection, unilaterally reopened by Russia with breakaway Abkhazia and issue of Russian passports in breakaway region.

Election system in Georgia was the top issue discussed during the meeting of MP Zurab Zhvania and Euro-parliamentarians.

Zhvania emphasized the importance of reform of the election system and presence of the representatives of the opposition in the election commissions.
