Georgia Guarantees Security of Gazprom Employees
(Tbilisi, August 29, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian State Security Minister Valeri Khaburdzania met with representatives from the Russian energy giant Gazprom during his visit to Moscow on August 27-28.
Khaburdzania said after the meeting that Gazprom, which signed an agreement on strategic cooperation with Georgia last month, is concerned with statements by some Georgian politicians that criticize the deal and demand cancellation of the contract.
“I said to Gazprom representatives that the statements of our politicians do not mean that their employees would be in danger in Georgia,!

Former Energy Minister of Georgia Davit Mirtskhulava, who signed the agreement with Gazprom, also met with the Russian company’s representatives on August 28. However details of Mirtskhulava’s visit to Moscow remain unknown.
